 Greek Civilization

Ancient Greece has, and always will be, known for their intricate and fantastic art. From frescoes to pottery, the Greeks have always made art a large part of their daily life. Even since the Golden Age, they have always put hard work into their art to represent their civilization as a whole. During this era, many advances were made including government, art, philosophy, drama, literature, and civilization.  All of these advances made them very prosperous.

The shield is a one of the most powerful image that truly represents 'authentic Greece'. I noticed how much small detail is put into every part of the shield, from eye cut outs to a bellybutton. The shield has carved in abdominal muscles into the metal which shows how the Greek were proud of their bodies and wanted to emphasize their fitness in any way possible. I find that the shield really shows how strong and powerful Greece is, even as a community, and how every man should strive to be the best.

Pottery from the Greek Golden Ages was one of the most durable forms of art in that period. The Golden Age was the first known era where the pottery wheel was invented. The Olympic Vase shows many runners on it, which represents the strength and fitness of the Greeks. The Greek community really thrived to be the best, especially when it came to wars. Even though many men were in great shape, only the strongest would participate. Fitness and health was such a key point in Greek history, it showed up everywhere, even on their vases. Pottery was yet another way the Greeks really showed their artistic and athletic side.

If any form of art truly represents authentic Greece, it would be the sculptures. The Greek worked very hard to put such great detail into their sculptures. Out of many civilizations, the Greek were the first to show idealistic and proportionate attributes within their art. Artists like Michelangelo are one of many reasons why Greek statues are still so famous today. Like most Greek art, these sculptures represent how athleticism was so prominent in the Golden Ages. During this era, the Greeks were fighting the Trojan War against the Persians and taking part in the Olympic Games in 776 BC. They had to have fantastic physique. Greek statues are the most well know factors of the Golden Age.

With the Golden Age being so prosperous in literature, government, and art; it changed the whole Greek community to make it more advanced in technology. The Greek have many factors such as armor, art, and athleticism, that truly portray an 'authentic community'. Without these magnificent factors, Greek society, and society today would not be the same.
